A dormitory fire broke out at Isiolo Girls High School on the evening of September 7, 2024, causing significant damage.
Thankfully, no casualties have been reported so far.
The blaze started in one of the dormitories and spread to a laboratory, prompting an emergency response from the Kenya Red Cross and local authorities.
Efforts to contain the fire involved fire engines from both the Isiolo Airport and the Kenya Defence Forces, as the county’s fire engine encountered mechanical issues on-site.
The fire was eventually contained later that evening.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the incident has raised concerns about safety protocols in boarding schools, particularly following a recent fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy, which tragically claimed the lives of several students.
Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo expressed his sympathies and reassured the public that emergency services are actively working to manage the situation.
Evacuations of students and staff were carried out to ensure their safety during the fire.
