In 2024, Kenya has witnessed a series of tragic incidents involving schoolchildren, drawing attention to severe safety issues.
One of the most devastating events occurred in early September, when a fire broke out in a dormitory at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County.
The fire claimed the lives of 21 boys, with some bodies burned beyond recognition, and left others hospitalized with severe injuries.
Investigations are ongoing to determine whether negligence contributed to the tragedy, as the incident has sparked national outrage and calls for accountability from school administrators and authorities.
Just days after this disaster, another fire broke out at Isiolo Girls’ School, though fortunately it caused fewer injuries.
