Nairobi City County officials shut down the popular Quiver Steak House on Sunday due to ongoing noise pollution.
The decision followed numerous complaints from residents, who had long been disturbed by the loud music emanating from the entertainment joint, affecting their ability to sleep.
Led by the Chief Officer of Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, the county officials moved to enforce the closure after the establishment repeatedly ignored notices to reduce noise levels and implement soundproofing measures.
Despite the residents’ persistent pleas, Quiver’s management failed to address the concerns, leading to heightened pressure for the steak house to be closed.
During the shutdown, Mosiria emphasized the importance of protecting residents’ rights, stating,
“We cannot allow a single business to rob several people of their right to a peaceful night’s sleep. This behavior is illegal, and we are enforcing action against those who failed to comply with our requests.”
The establishment, located near key government institutions such as the Department of Defence (DOD) and State House, as well as numerous residential buildings, had been a source of frustration for its neighbors.
Notices to soundproof the club went unheeded, prompting the county to take decisive action.
The closure was peaceful, with Quiver’s management and revelers complying with the county order. Many patrons were seen leaving the premises in surprise as officials sealed the venue.
Mosiria assured that Nairobi City County will continue to crack down on businesses that cause environmental pollution and disturbances within residential areas.
