Transport along Magadi Road in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, was disrupted on Tuesday morning as students from Multimedia University staged demonstrations over water shortages and poor internet connectivity in their hostels.
The protests, which began early in the day, saw the students block the highway, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.
The students accused the university administration of ignoring their demands to restore water supply, stating that they had been without clean water for several days.
This, they said, had caused significant inconvenience, especially for those residing in hostels.
“We’ve been patient, but the administration has ignored our concerns despite issuing a strike notice last Tuesday. We can’t go on like this,” one student leader remarked while addressing the press during the protests.
In addition to the water issue, the students also complained about the lack of a stable internet connection, which they said has severely affected their academic activities.
Many reported struggling to access online learning resources and assignments due to constant connectivity issues.
The students vowed to continue with the protests until their grievances are addressed, demanding swift action from the university administration.
Motorists and commuters using Magadi Road faced significant delays as the protests intensified, with no immediate solution in sight.
The situation is being monitored by local authorities, though no further developments had been reported at the time of publication.
