Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is currently facing significant political challenges, with mounting pressure for his impeachment.
Gachagua has openly claimed that his opponents are offering bribes to Members of Parliament (MPs) to support his removal from office.
He alleges that several MPs were offered KSh 5 million to back the motion, though some, like Kirinyaga Senator James Murango, refused the bribe.
Gachagua also believes that President William Ruto is behind this push, accusing him of betrayal after they worked together to secure the presidency.
This political tension has grown due to Gachagua’s claims that Ruto is now aligning himself with opposition leader Raila Odinga, which Gachagua views as a strategy to sideline him.
The impeachment motion has gained significant traction, with over 242 MPs reportedly supporting it, far surpassing the one-third requirement to initiate the process.
The motion will need two-thirds approval from Parliament before moving to the Senate for further investigation.
Gachagua has expressed frustration, stating that he is being treated worse than Ruto was during his time as Deputy President under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Gachagua feels unfairly targeted, given that he has only served for one year, unlike Ruto, who was allowed to work for a full term.
He claims to have been excluded from key government discussions and events, further intensifying his grievances.
These developments have caused distress not only for Gachagua but also for his family, who are deeply affected by the political instability surrounding him.
Despite the challenges, Gachagua remains determined to fight for his position, viewing the situation as a betrayal after his staunch support for Ruto during the election campaign.
