On October 4, 2024, activist Morara Kebaso found himself at the center of chaos during a public participation meeting at Bomas of Kenya, which was focused on gathering opinions about the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Upon his arrival, Kebaso was met with hostility as tensions escalated at the venue. Although he attempted to address the audience, he was blocked from speaking, leading to accusations that he intended to disrupt the event. The situation quickly turned violent as unidentified individuals began hurling chairs and other objects at him.
Kebaso was cornered and eventually forced out of the venue by the attackers, leaving him injured and in need of medical attention. Security personnel struggled to control the chaotic scene, and participants scrambled for safety. Despite efforts by the Master of Ceremonies to calm the crowd, the disorder caused significant disruption to the proceedings, which were part of a broader constitutional process for public input on the impeachment.
Kebaso later spoke out, expressing his frustration at being barred from entry initially and denied the opportunity to speak once inside.
He highlighted the violent nature of the attack and stated that he was heading to the hospital to recover but would “live to fight another day”.
