Reports have surfaced indicating that some vendors are using sulphuric acid to cook groundnuts in an attempt to avoid the rising costs of charcoal.

This alarming practice, which poses a serious health risk to consumers, is said to be a result of the increasing prices of traditional fuel sources, making it more expensive to roast groundnuts using charcoal.

The use of sulphuric acid, a highly corrosive and toxic substance, has shocked many, as it could lead to severe health complications if ingested.

In an effort to cut down on costs, unscrupulous traders have resorted to this dangerous method, prioritizing profit over public health.

Groundnuts, a popular snack in many regions, are commonly roasted over charcoal, which gives them their distinct flavor and texture.

However, with the price of charcoal rising due to various economic factors, vendors are looking for cheaper alternatives to sustain their businesses.

Unfortunately, this unethical shortcut could have dire consequences for unsuspecting consumers.

Sulphuric acid is not meant for human consumption and can cause severe damage to the digestive system if ingested, leading to symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and even internal burns.

Health experts are warning the public to be vigilant and avoid purchasing groundnuts from questionable sources.

Authorities are urged to crack down on this illegal and harmful practice, ensuring that those responsible face appropriate penalties to protect public safety.

Consumers are also being advised to buy groundnuts from trusted vendors or to roast them at home to avoid the risk of consuming contaminated products.

This growing issue highlights the lengths to which some people are willing to go to save on costs, even if it means endangering the lives of others.

It also raises questions about the need for more affordable and safe alternatives to charcoal in regions where it remains a staple for cooking and roasting.
