A fascinating story has emerged about a man from Butula, Busia County, who single-handedly constructed an underground home over several decades.
Francis Ouma, a 74-year-old man, has been building this house for 50 years, explaining that he was divinely guided to complete the task.
The structure, which spans 2.7 meters underground, is quite hidden, with only a normal house entrance visible from the outside. Upon entering, one finds a large hole and a ladder leading to a network of rooms below.
Ouma’s underground residence currently consists of 20 rooms, and he has plans to expand it further to 36.
The house, although unconventional, is well-constructed and has not collapsed despite its long history. Ouma lives in the home along with bats, and he performs prayers while dressed in a white robe inside the structure.
The uniqueness of his home has raised curiosity and concern among neighbors, some of whom fear the underground space could be used for criminal activities.
However, his family, including his wife and brother, have always supported his vision and reassured others that the house is safe and secure.
Ouma’s story stands as a remarkable example of persistence and dedication. His home remains a source of intrigue for many, and despite the concerns, it is a testament to his unique vision.
