President William Rutois currently hosting Haiti’s Prime Minister Garry Conille at State House, Nairobi, where they are discussing security collaboration between Kenya and Haiti.
This meeting comes in the wake of Kenya’s commitment to lead a United Nations-backed Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti.
The primary focus was Haiti’s need for additional police forces to stabilize the country, which has been plagued by gang violence and lawlessness.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Conille emphasized the importance of Kenya’s support in helping Haiti combat these issues.
He requested the deployment of more Kenyan police officers, recognizing their vital role in maintaining peace and order. President Ruto, in response, assured that Kenya would send an additional 600 officers by November, building on the deployment of the initial contingent.
This deployment aligns with international efforts to restore peace in Haiti and demonstrates Kenya’s growing influence in global peacekeeping missions.
In addition to security, the leaders explored potential areas of cooperation in economic development and capacity building.
The meeting highlighted Kenya’s dedication to playing a leadership role on the international stage while fostering closer diplomatic ties with Haiti, a nation grappling with deep political and social challenges.
