Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was recently summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to record a statement regarding an assassination claim he made.
Gachagua has alleged that there have been at least two attempts to poison his food, which he links to political rivals aiming to intimidate him.
These claims come amid growing tensions as Gachagua faces impeachment efforts, with some accusing him of engaging in divisive politics, particularly in relation to his controversial “one man, one vote, one shilling” policy.
In addition to these poisoning allegations, Gachagua recently revealed an assassination attempt involving a bodyguard who was shot by an unknown assailant on a motorbike.
The bodyguard survived after being hospitalized, and Gachagua voiced concerns that the attackers had not yet been apprehended.
He emphasized that such incidents were attempts to instill fear in his camp as he continues his work, especially around the fight against illicit brews in Kenya.
The summonses come at a politically sensitive time, with Gachagua’s opponents pushing for his impeachment.
Some leaders have accused him of tribalism, while others argue that his outspokenness is part of a larger effort to divide the Mount Kenya region.
Despite these challenges, Gachagua remains defiant, confident that he has the support of the people and determined to clear his name from these allegations.
