A tragic fuel tanker explosion near Kampala, Uganda, claimed the lives of at least 10 people. The tanker lost control and overturned in the town of Kigogwa, about 25 kilometers north of the capital.

Following the accident, local residents rushed to the scene to siphon fuel, but the tanker exploded, resulting in the fatal disaster.

Emergency teams, including police and firefighters, swiftly responded to the scene, managing to contain the fire before it reached nearby petrol stations.

The explosion occurred on a busy highway, exacerbating the devastation. In addition to the confirmed fatalities, several people were injured and rushed to hospitals.

Authorities are conducting investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident, but such accidents are tragically common in Uganda due to the high risk of fires from overturned fuel tankers.

This incident follows a history of similar disasters in the country.

Fuel tanker explosions have long been a safety concern in Uganda and other parts of Africa. In 2019, another fuel truck accident in western Uganda resulted in 19 deaths, highlighting the persistent danger associated with fuel transportation.

These incidents often claim lives because people rush to collect fuel, unaware of the imminent risks.
