Lawyer Danstan Omari is fiercely advocating for answers regarding the disappearance of Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, a Member of the Wajir County Assembly (MCA) for Della Ward, who went missing under suspicious circumstances.
Ahmed was allegedly abducted on September 13, 2024, while traveling through Nairobi. Witnesses report that a group in SUVs forced him out of his vehicle at gunpoint, after which he was not seen again.
Omari, representing Ahmed’s family, has accused the police of involvement in the abduction and demanded the court compel the authorities to account for Ahmed’s whereabouts.
Omari highlighted that the family is distraught, facing immense distress over his disappearance, and seeks immediate judicial intervention for Ahmed’s release if he is in police custody.
In response, a court in Nairobi ordered the police to produce Ahmed or provide a full explanation regarding his location.
The directive, issued by Justice Alexander Muteti, underscores the pressing need for accountability from law enforcement agencies, as the family suspects foul play.
Despite filing multiple reports, including two official complaints at police stations, the family claims they’ve received no information.
Omari, standing firm, insisted on the importance of transparency and adherence to legal protocols, emphasizing that if Ahmed is detained, he should be presented in court as required by law.
The situation has also sparked significant unrest in northern Kenya, with local leaders from Wajir, Garissa, and Mandera joining Ahmed’s family in Nairobi to demand action.
The Wajir County Assembly suspended its activities in solidarity, vowing to keep up the pressure until Ahmed is found.
This case has raised wider concerns regarding the safety of political leaders in the region, with Omari highlighting that Ahmed’s disappearance may be part of a broader pattern of intimidation against elected officials in certain regions.
