In a horrifying chain of events that has stunned residents in Nairobi, a man identified as Hashim Dagane Muhumed, originally from Ethiopia’s Somali region, has been implicated in the brutal murders of three women in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
Muhumed, who fled Ethiopia after allegedly killing his wife, settled in Nairobi and operated a taxi business. His recent actions are linked to a tragic incident involving Amina Abdirashid, her aunt Waris Dahabo Daud, and her 12-year-old niece, Nusayba Abdi Mohammed.
These women went missing on October 21, 2024, and were later discovered dead in separate locations across Nairobi, with stab wounds and signs of brutal physical harm. Police believe that Muhumed abducted the women, demanding ransom from their relatives before resorting to violence when his demands were dismissed.
The intensity of the injuries, especially on Waris, suggests that the murders were driven by extreme rage. Authorities have now connected Muhumed to the crime through CCTV footage and his abandoned vehicle, escalating the urgency of the case.
Investigations reveal that Muhumed may have resorted to violent crime as part of a broader extortion scheme he ran in Nairobi. Before the murders, he allegedly forced his victims to call family members in the UK, demanding a ransom to secure their release.
When the family dismissed his threats, Muhumed turned ruthless, killing the women in a way police describe as torturous. This case has drawn in various other persons of interest, including a woman who survived the incident.
The survivor reported hearing Muhumed and his accomplices discuss how the women had recognized them, which would jeopardize their operation.
She also detailed how she was held in the same room with the victims before her family managed to pay a ransom of $7,000, leading to her eventual release.
This evidence has helped police piece together the motive and method behind the murders, while Muhumed remains a central suspect on the run.
As police continue their pursuit of Muhumed, they are also probing his past, particularly his criminal history in Ethiopia, where he served as a police officer.
This role, however, ended in imprisonment over allegations of murdering his wife, after which he managed to flee to Kenya, obtaining a Kenyan ID illegally. He has since been involved in various questionable dealings, including extortion, with authorities now connecting his activities to his current murder charges.
The brutal nature of the killings, including physical mutilations, has drawn significant attention and shocked Kenyans, especially as the victims’ families cope with the gruesome details of the attack. As a final twist, the victims were buried at Lang’ata Cemetery in Nairobi, the same area where Muhumed is alleged to have discarded parts of the victims’ bodies.
Law enforcement officials are working closely with Ethiopian authorities to track Muhumed’s movements and bring him to justice, as this case stirs a call for stricter security measures against such violent offenders in Nairobi.
