A Modern Coast bus traveling from Nairobi to Mombasa caught fire near Naivasha on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 AM along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
All passengers and crew members evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.
According to Naivasha Sub-County Deputy Police Commander Anthony Keter, the fire started in the rear wheels, likely due to a mechanical issue.
The driver noticed smoke and promptly pulled over, allowing everyone to exit before the flames spread.
Despite efforts to control the blaze, the bus was completely destroyed, resulting in the loss of passengers’ personal belongings.
This incident highlights the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and adherence to safety protocols, especially for long-distance travel.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Passengers are advised to ensure that the vehicles they board are well-maintained and to remain vigilant during their journeys.
