Mumias East MP Peter Salasya was asked to leave the first-class section of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train while traveling to Mombasa for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) games.
A video capturing the incident shows Salasya expressing frustration, questioning why he was being moved while other MPs remained in first class.
Salasya, who was asleep at the time, was awakened by train attendants requesting him to change seats.
He perceived this as disrespectful, especially since his fellow parliamentarians were allowed to stay in the first-class section. In the video, he can be heard saying, “Why are the other MPs in first class?
What are they doing? I was just sitting there comfortably, and you are disturbing me. Stop the disrespect.”
The incident has sparked discussions on social media, with many questioning the treatment of the MP and the policies governing seating arrangements on the SGR.
Salasya’s reaction highlights concerns about respect and equality among public officials during official duties.
