During the opening of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) games in Mombasa on December 7, 2024, President William Ruto participated in a 50-meter race alongside other regional leaders.

The event, held at Mbaraki Sports Club, featured a curtain-raiser race that included notable figures such as National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Ugandan Speaker Anita Among.

In a display of camaraderie and lighthearted competition, President Ruto secured the gold medal, with Speaker Among earning silver and Speaker Wetang’ula taking bronze.

The race was characterized by a jovial atmosphere, as some officials humorously ran backwards, adding to the event’s festive spirit.

The EALA games aim to foster unity and cooperation among East African nations through sports.

President Ruto’s participation and victory in the race underscored the importance of regional integration and the role of sports in strengthening diplomatic ties.
