In a shocking incident on January 3, 2025, approximately 3,000 residents stormed the Chemase Police Post in Nandi County, Kenya.
The mob was enraged over the arrest of a murder suspect who had confessed to a gruesome killing involving the dismemberment of a 38-year-old man.
The suspect had been detained after leading police to the victim’s severed head and other body parts.
Demanding immediate justice, the crowd overpowered the police officers, injuring three in the process. They proceeded to stone the suspect to death and set his body ablaze.
The mob then vandalized the police station, stealing equipment including a VHF radio set, computer accessories, and the Occurrence Book (OB), which is crucial for recording daily police activities.
The station was subsequently set on fire, along with a police vehicle.
The National Police Service (NPS) condemned the attack, urging the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
They emphasized that such actions hinder police efficiency and compromise community safety. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the destruction and theft of police property.
