Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has vowed to strongly resist any attempts to impeach him, revealing a plot involving Ksh5 million aimed at removing him from office.
Natembeya claimed that some of his political rivals were behind a scheme to forcefully oust him due to his recent public criticism of the government over rising abduction cases in the country.
He explained that his remarks on the abductions had angered some powerful figures, leading them to plot his impeachment.
“There are people planning to remove me from office because of my outspokenness. These are the same individuals involved in abductions, as they cannot tolerate opposing views.
They want their opinions to be the only ones that matter,” he stated.
The governor further alleged that some individuals were willing to spend Ksh5 million to orchestrate his removal but warned that it would not be easy.
“They want to use Ksh5 million to kick me out of office, but it will not be an easy task. I will raise my voice and make sure the truth is known because I will not be intimidated.
My voice has already made a difference—some of the abducted individuals were released due to the pressure I put on the authorities,” he added.
His remarks came just days after National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah criticized him during the burial of Moses Wetangula’s mother on Friday, January 3.
Ichung’wah accused Natembeya of fueling political divisions in the Western region and engaging in divisive politics.
There were also claims suggesting Natembeya was sympathetic toward former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached in October 2024.
However, Natembeya dismissed the accusations, clarifying that he had no political ties with Gachagua and harbored no ill feelings toward him.
“Some people are trying to earn favor with the president by falsely claiming I am working with Gachagua. The truth is, Gachagua and I are not enemies.
We have never conspired politically, and we have never even spoken on the phone about political matters,” Natembeya clarified.
