Abraham Kimungui, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kamukuywa, is currently recovering in hospital after being shot during an altercation with police officers.
The MCA, widely known as “Obama,” was reportedly shot on Wednesday night around 11 PM in a confrontation that took place in Kimilili.
The incident stemmed from a suspected attempt to avoid inspection by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) while transporting ethanol.
According to eyewitness accounts, the situation quickly escalated, leading to police officers using live ammunition.
Kimungui, who is serving his first term as the MCA for Kamukuywa Ward, was rushed to a medical facility in Bungoma where he is being treated for the gunshot wound.
Though the injury is serious, medical experts have assured that it is not life-threatening.
Known in the region for his long-standing business ventures in Kamukuywa market, Kimungui was reportedly involved in the transportation of goods at the time of the incident.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, the National Police Service has yet to release an official statement, and the shooting has sparked widespread debate across the area.
