Booker Ngesa Omole, a prominent Kenyan activist and General Secretary of the Communist Party Marxist – Kenya (CPMK), narrowly escaped an abduction attempt on January 14, 2025.
According to reports, Omole was approached by unidentified assailants near his residence in Nairobi. In self-defense, he discharged his licensed firearm, causing the attackers to flee the scene.
This incident adds to the growing concerns over the safety of political activists in Kenya, amid increasing reports of abductions and disappearances.
The National Police Service (NPS) has recently faced scrutiny over allegations of involvement in such abductions.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja has denied any police participation, stating that the NPS is not involved in any abduction activities.
Despite these assurances, public figures and human rights organizations remain skeptical, urging the government to address the rising insecurity and protect citizens’ rights.
Omole’s escape underscores the persistent threats faced by activists opposing the current administration.
His party, CPMK, has been vocal in criticizing government policies and advocating for socialist reforms.
The attempted abduction highlights the urgent need for authorities to investigate and curb such incidents, ensuring the safety and freedom of expression for all citizens.
