Government Plans Temporary School Disruptions for Taifa Care Registration
Schools across the country will face temporary disruptions as the government rolls out a nationwide registration exercise for learners under the Taifa Care program.
This initiative is being overseen by the Social Health Authority (SHA) as part of the government’s broader plan to enroll all Kenyans into the health scheme.
To facilitate this exercise, the Ministry of Education has joined hands with the Ministry of Health. The collaboration aims to ensure a seamless registration process for learners, who will now be part of the universal health coverage drive.
In Mombasa, public schools experienced a pause in normal learning on Thursday to allow Community Health Promoters to carry out the registration. Similar exercises are expected to take place in other parts of the country in the coming weeks.
The process requires parents to accompany their children to schools, where registration takes place. This arrangement has placed an additional burden on parents, who will need to make time to travel to schools and ensure their children are registered as part of the government’s ambitious health initiative.
The registration is seen as a key step in advancing the government’s efforts to provide comprehensive healthcare to all citizens.
However, it is also expected to spark debates around its impact on school schedules and the challenges it poses to parents juggling work and other commitments.
