Gladys Wanga, the Chairperson of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, has strongly denied the authenticity of a letter purportedly signed by her and addressed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The letter, which surfaced recently, claimed that Wanga was requesting the DCI to investigate comments made by Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi regarding an alleged assassination plot against opposition leader Raila Odinga.
In a post shared on social media, Wanga warned Kenyans about the fake letter, emphasizing, “This is fake. Beware of disinformation.”
The letter, dated January 23, falsely suggested that Sudi had accused the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, of discussing a plan to eliminate Raila Odinga to end the opposition’s Maandamano protests.
The letter claimed that the seriousness of such accusations, if true, would be a direct threat to Odinga’s safety and would deeply damage the country’s democratic integrity.
The fake letter went on to urge the DCI to investigate Sudi’s statements by summoning him to provide proof and further information regarding his allegations.
Sudi’s video, released on January 20, had ignited a storm on social media due to its explosive claims. He accused Gachagua of allegedly suggesting an extreme strategy to crush opposition protests in 2023, which he claimed was dangerous for the nation.
In his emotional attack, Sudi suggested that Gachagua had engaged in treacherous acts aimed at silencing key opposition figures, including Raila Odinga, and even implied that Gachagua had made attempts to harm high-ranking political figures like former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Sudi, voicing his frustration, claimed that Gachagua was not as innocent as he appeared. He accused the Deputy President of trying to carry out harmful plans to eliminate the opposition, including plotting to harm the Uhuru family, Matiang’i, and others perceived as obstacles to the current regime.
In his remarks, Sudi suggested that the country was fortunate that these plans were stopped, as they could have had disastrous consequences.
He also threw accusations of dishonesty at Gachagua, calling him a liar and claiming that his involvement in various past incidents, including controversial actions against the Uhuru family, demonstrated his true nature.
The video and the fake letter have sparked a new round of political controversy, further fueling the tense political climate in Kenya.
