President William Ruto visited Wajir County as part of his North Eastern Development Tour.
Accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and several Cabinet Secretaries, the President’s agenda focused on launching and inspecting development projects aimed at improving the region’s infrastructure and living standards.
During his visit, President Ruto commissioned the Shuublow electrification project in Wajir East constituency.
Implemented by the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), this initiative connected 91 households, Shuublow Mixed Secondary School, and a local mosque to electricity.
The President emphasized his administration’s commitment to expanding rural electrification, announcing plans to connect 20,000 more households in the coming years at an estimated cost of KSh 3.6 billion.
A key figure often seen alongside President Ruto is Farouk Teigut Kibet, his long-serving personal assistant. Hailing from Kapkechui-Chepsaita in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, Kibet has been a steadfast ally since Ruto’s early political days.
Their association began in 1997 when Ruto won the Eldoret North parliamentary seat. Over the years, Kibet has become known as a powerful and influential figure within Ruto’s inner circle, often described as the gatekeeper to the President.
Despite his significant role, Kibet maintains a low public profile, rarely seeking the limelight.
He is recognized for his organizational skills, loyalty, and ability to manage access to the President, making him both respected and, at times, feared within political circles.
His influence is such that many politicians and government officials consider his approval crucial for engaging with the President.
In recent times, Kibet has taken on a more public role by presiding over numerous church fundraising events, particularly in Uasin Gishu County.
Holding a minimum of three such fundraisers monthly, he has earned the title of “patron” of churches. These events often attract senior government officials and politicians, underscoring his continued influence and the respect he commands within the community.
In summary, President Ruto’s visit to Wajir County underscores his administration’s focus on regional development, with initiatives like the Shuublow electrification project aiming to enhance the quality of life for residents.
Meanwhile, Farouk Kibet’s enduring presence and evolving roles highlight the trust and reliance the President places in him, reflecting a partnership that has significantly shaped Ruto’s political journey.
