KNEC Declares Circular on Final Grade 9 Exams as Fake

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has dismissed a viral social media post claiming to announce the final examination dates for the Kenya Junior Education Assessment (KJSEA) as fake.

The false post alleged that the KJSEA exams were scheduled to begin on October 27, 2025, and conclude in November 2025.

Additionally, it claimed that KNEC had already conducted a pilot test of the exams using current Grade 8 learners from 235 schools between July 15 and July 19, 2024.

The post also included a fabricated timetable, which KNEC has now discredited.

Responding to the misinformation, KNEC issued a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, urging Kenyans to ignore the fake post.

The council clarified that the alleged information did not originate from them and advised the public to rely only on official communication from KNEC or the Ministry of Education.

At the moment, KNEC has not yet released the official dates for the KJSEA exams. However, to help Grade 9 students prepare for their assessments, the council has provided sample exam papers on its Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal.

These practice materials are accessible to all schools and cover a broad range of subjects, including English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Pre-technical Studies, and Integrated Science, among others.

The examination body continues to explore various methods to understand the academic strengths and interests of Grade 9 students as they progress through the junior secondary curriculum.

In December 2024, KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere announced that, in addition to the achievement assessments already conducted at Grade 9, students would also be required to complete questionnaires.

These questionnaires are aimed at gathering insights into students’ preferences and career interests, helping shape their future educational paths.

KNEC has assured the public that any official updates regarding the KJSEA exams will be communicated through verified channels.

The council also urged parents, teachers, and students to remain cautious of false information and to always verify details from credible sources.
