President Ruto Faces Hostile Reception in Isiolo as Senator Fatuma Dullo Gets Heckled
Drama unfolded on Friday, February 7, during President William Ruto’s visit to Isiolo, as area residents loudly jeered Senator Fatuma Dullo while she attempted to address them. The atmosphere turned chaotic when Dullo rose to speak, only to be met with chants of “Dullo Must Go” from a visibly agitated crowd.
Footage obtained by newshub.co.ke captured the moment the audience drowned out her voice, making it nearly impossible for her to continue with her speech.
Overwhelmed by the persistent heckling, Dullo eventually stepped back from the mini-stage designated for local leaders, cutting her speech short with a brief remark: “There is nothing much to be said here, thank you very much.”
The incident took place in the presence of President Ruto, who watched as events spiraled out of control.
Dullo was among the leaders scheduled to address the public during the President’s rally, which followed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Isiolo County Aggregation and Industrial Park.
Despite the tense moment, another local leader who took the microphone after Dullo received a warm reception from the crowd and delivered his remarks without interruption.
Sensing the volatile mood, President Ruto quickly wrapped up the rally to prevent the situation from escalating further.
Pattern of Public Discontent
Dullo’s heckling in Isiolo mirrors a similar incident that happened just two weeks ago in Vihiga County, where Governor Wilber Ottichilo faced public rejection while speaking in the presence of President Ruto.
During Ruto’s development tour in Western Kenya, where he presided over the launch of the Luanda Modern Market, Ottichilo was met with hostility from the crowd. A video accessed by newshub.co.ke showed residents openly expressing their dissatisfaction, drowning out his speech with loud jeers.
As he attempted to address the gathering, Ottichilo started by saying, “On behalf of the people of Luanda, I would like to send my appreciation…” but he was quickly interrupted by an unrelenting wave of disapproval. Struggling to regain control, the governor ultimately gave up and stepped aside in embarrassment.
Ruto’s Growing Encounters with Hecklers
This is not the first time President Ruto has witnessed his allies being booed by the public. On December 29, 2024, a similar scene played out in Bomet County after a church service.
Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok found himself at the receiving end of public disapproval when the crowd turned hostile the moment Ruto invited him to speak.
Video footage obtained by newshub.co.ke showed a stark contrast in the audience’s reaction—they were lively and attentive during Ruto’s speech but immediately grew agitated when Barchok took the microphone.
In the footage, hundreds of Bomet residents gathered in Koiwa and raised their hands in protest, making it clear that they did not want to hear from their governor. President Ruto, momentarily at a loss for words, observed the unfolding drama.
Despite his efforts to calm the crowd, Barchok’s speech was met with even louder jeers. Realizing he had lost their attention, he turned to Ruto and dismissed the heckling as a result of “internal wrangles” within the county.
These repeated incidents of public rejection suggest growing dissatisfaction among citizens toward some of their elected leaders, raising questions about the political climate and shifting public sentiments.
