Kasipul MP Narrates Harrowing Attacks on His Convoy and Staff
Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ando, has raised serious concerns over the rising insecurity in his constituency, revealing that he has been the primary target of these violent incidents.
Speaking during a press conference at his home on Sunday, the MP detailed multiple occasions where he and his team were harassed, particularly during funeral ceremonies.
He recalled specific incidents where his vehicle was vandalized, and his staff members were attacked in his presence.
One of the most alarming attacks occurred when the tyres of his V8 vehicle were slashed, and two of his employees sustained knife injuries.
Fortunately, their wounds were not life-threatening, but the incident left his team shaken.
Recalling another frightening encounter, the MP narrated how he attended a funeral in Got Nyango, only to find the road blocked after the event, preventing him from leaving.
“Luckily, I had my security team with me, and they managed to handle the situation before it escalated,” he explained.
However, the violence did not stop there. The very next day, tensions flared again when he arrived at another funeral.
His supporters clashed with those of his political rival, Philiph Aroko. Before prayers could even begin, a man in the crowd stood up and loudly declared that the MP should not be allowed to address the mourners.
This triggered chaos, and a violent confrontation broke out among the attendees.
The MP refrained from commenting further on the incident, stating that the matter was now under police investigation.
In another shocking revelation, the legislator recalled an attack from mid-last year when he was assaulted at a funeral in Kolando before he even had the chance to speak.
“The case was reported to the police, and investigations are ongoing because matters involving political violence must follow due process,” he emphasized.
Despite police efforts, no arrests have been made in connection with the incidents so far.
Ong’ando admitted that for the past six months, he has been dealing with these attacks quietly, trying to manage the situation without raising public alarm.
However, he now feels compelled to speak out, as the pattern of violence continues to escalate.
The MP further made a startling claim that the individuals behind these attacks were not even from his constituency. He presented a list of 12 suspects, whom he alleged were recruited from outside Kasipul.
According to him, these youths came from various regions, including Homabay Town, Ndhiwa, Rangwe, Karachuonyo, as well as Kisii and Nairobi counties. He pointed out that some of these individuals were affiliated with rival politicians.
While he strongly suspects that certain political opponents may be behind the attacks, he also acknowledged that the 2017 and 2022 general elections in the constituency had been largely peaceful, without any incidents of violence.
This observation led him to believe that the current unrest is being fueled by a new generation of aspiring politicians eager to gain influence in the area.
Confirming the reports, Rachuonyo South Police Commander Philiph Saera stated that all the incidents had been officially reported to law enforcement.
He further revealed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has already reviewed some cases and recommended legal action against certain individuals involved.
As investigations continue, MP Ong’ando has urged authorities to take swift action to ensure that the violence does not spiral out of control.
He also called on the local community to remain vigilant and to reject political schemes that promote division and unrest.
