A family in Mogosiek, Bomet County, is devastated after losing their 20-year-old son, Brian Moi, who was allegedly stabbed to death by a smokie vendor.
Brian’s father, Geoffrey Ngetich, shared with Newshub.co.ke that the tragic incident occurred when his son accidentally knocked over a portion of kachumbari (a mixture of tomatoes, onions, and peppers) belonging to the vendor. What started as a minor accident quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation.
How Did Brian Moi Lose His Life?
According to his father, Brian had gone to buy an egg from the vendor. In a moment of carelessness, he knocked over the kachumbari while reaching for the egg.
The vendor, seemingly angered by the incident, reacted aggressively and allegedly stabbed Brian on the spot.
“Brian was just trying to pick an egg for himself—you know how young men behave sometimes. In the process, he accidentally knocked over the kachumbari, and that’s when the vendor stabbed him,” Ngetich recounted with grief.
Witnesses at the scene confirmed the tragic sequence of events. One of Brian’s friends, who was present during the incident, stated that the young man had just left a nearby pub when he decided to buy an egg worth KSh 25.
However, after mistakenly knocking over the vendor’s trolley, things took a sudden and violent turn.
“He had already eaten an egg when he accidentally hit the vendor’s trolley. That’s when the vendor pulled out a knife and stabbed him. A debt of a boiled egg should never cost someone their life,” the friend lamented.
Family Demands Justice
Following the attack, police officers responded to the scene and arrested the suspect. However, Brian’s father is calling for swift justice, urging authorities to ensure the vendor is held accountable for his son’s death.
“The man has been arrested, but we want the police to ensure he is arraigned in court and prosecuted for taking my son’s life,” Ngetich pleaded.
As the family mourns their beloved son, they hope justice will be served and that such senseless acts of violence will be prevented in the future.
