KNEC Warns Parents to Confirm KPSEA Exam Registration Before Deadline
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a warning to all parents with children under the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), urging them to confirm their children’s exam registration before the deadline.
Parents have been advised to check with their children’s schools to ensure they have been successfully registered for the national exams before the registration portal closes. KNEC made it clear that once the portal is closed, it will not be reopened under any circumstances to accommodate students who miss the registration deadline.
The registration period, which began on January 27, is set to close on Friday, February 28. With this deadline fast approaching, parents are being called upon to take immediate action to confirm that their Grade 6 children have been properly registered.
Strict Deadline for Registration
KNEC emphasized that today marks the final day for the registration of candidates for the 2025 KPSEA exams. Parents have been urged to verify with schools to ensure their child’s details have been accurately captured in the system.
“There will be no provision for late registration of candidates once the portal is closed,” KNEC stated in an official notice. The council further advised parents not to assume that schools have automatically registered all students, warning that any oversight could lead to their children missing out on the crucial exams.
KPSEA Exams and Their Role in CBC
KPSEA is a mandatory national assessment that all Grade 6 pupils must undertake as part of their transition under the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). The exam replaced the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), which was phased out following the introduction of the new education system.
This year, the registration process saw several changes as KNEC introduced new protocols and guidelines to streamline the process. Parents, students, and school heads were required to adhere to these updated rules to ensure a smooth registration process.
New Registration Guidelines
According to the latest directives, school heads overseeing students in the regular learning pathway were required to register all their Grade 6 candidates afresh through KNEC’s online registration portal. Unlike in previous years, schools were instructed to register only genuine students to prevent any form of malpractice.
KNEC issued a stern warning against fraud, stating that any school found registering fake candidates would face severe consequences.
“Registering ghost candidates constitutes an assessment malpractice, which attracts sanctions, including the de-registration of the school as a KNEC assessment center,” KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere cautioned in January when the registration process was officially launched.
Students Seeking Transfers
Students who intended to transfer to a different school were also required to complete their transfer process before the February 28 registration deadline. Any student who had not finalized their transfer by this date risked missing out on the exams.
With the final registration day here, parents are urged to take immediate action to ensure their children’s registration is complete, as no extensions will be granted once the portal closes.
