The late Malava MP, Malulu Injendi, was in high spirits and appeared to be on the path to recovery in the days leading up to his sudden passing, his wife, Betty Malulu, has revealed.

Speaking during his burial in Lukusi Village on Tuesday, March 4, Betty recounted the difficult weeks before her husband succumbed to illness. She shared that Malulu initially hesitated to seek medical attention despite experiencing symptoms that indicated his health was deteriorating.

According to her, the MP first showed signs of extreme fatigue, but when she urged him to see a doctor, he brushed off her concerns. “He told me that he rarely visited hospitals and insisted that he was only tired,” she recalled.

However, after some persuasion, Malulu finally agreed to go for a check-up. When he returned home, he reassured her that the doctors had only diagnosed him with fatigue and advised him to rest.

Despite his condition, Malulu remained committed to his duties. Betty disclosed that even when his health worsened, he insisted on attending an official function in Malava. She had advised him to postpone the event, but he was determined to go ahead with it.

“I told him that he could always hold the event at a later date since he wasn’t feeling well, but he insisted,” she said. In the end, she accompanied him to the sports event, as he was eager to ensure its success.

After the event, Malulu returned to Nairobi with his wife, but his condition continued to deteriorate. Seeing the urgency of the situation, Betty reached out to their son, Rhyan Injendi. The MP was rushed to Nairobi Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with malaria, a bacterial infection, and other ailments.

Following medical treatment, Malulu showed remarkable improvement. His wife recalled how doctors were astonished by his recovery, referring to him as a “miracle patient.”

However, just as things seemed to be getting better, tragedy struck. Despite making progress, the MP unexpectedly passed away three days later.

During the burial, his son, Rhyan, paid a heartfelt tribute to his father, describing him as a selfless leader who always prioritized the needs of his constituents over his own well-being.

In January, news of Malulu’s hospitalization had spread widely, sparking concern among his supporters. Around the same time, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa had been forced to dismiss rumors of the MP’s early demise.

Throughout his career, Malulu Injendi was known for his bold and outspoken nature. He was never afraid to challenge issues he disagreed with, a trait that earned him admiration from many.

In November 2024, he publicly criticized church leaders who rejected President William Ruto’s cash donations, showcasing his fearless approach to governance.

His passing marks the loss of a dedicated leader whose passion for service remained unwavering until his last moments.
