The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leaders have sent a strong message to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, warning him against interfering in Raila Odinga’s potential political deal with President William Ruto.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, March 6, the youths accused Uhuru of allegedly persuading Raila to reject a possible political alliance with Ruto.
They claimed that despite Uhuru’s past association with the former Prime Minister, he had never genuinely supported Raila’s presidential ambitions, including his unsuccessful 2022 bid.
“We have noticed attempts by former President Uhuru Kenyatta to exert unnecessary pressure on Raila Odinga, urging him to oppose the current government,” the youth representatives stated. “We are sending a clear message to Uhuru: leave Raila alone.

You had an opportunity to support him fully when you were in power, but you failed to do so. We do not need your involvement now,” they added.
The ODM youths also addressed the speculated alliance between Raila and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, criticizing Gachagua for allegedly trying to convince Odinga to join him by promising Mt Kenya votes.
“We have seen Rigathi Gachagua making efforts to persuade Raila to align with him, claiming that he will rally Mt Kenya residents to support him in the future,” the group remarked. “We have made it clear that we will not follow Gachagua’s lead.
We are skeptical about his real intentions, and we strongly urge Raila Odinga to be cautious and not fall into this trap. Instead of engaging with Gachagua, we believe Raila should work directly with Ruto,” they emphasized.
The youth leaders further urged for the full and swift implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, arguing that it holds the key to addressing the country’s pressing political challenges.
Their statements came just hours after Raila Odinga firmly rejected any possibility of working with Gachagua to challenge Ruto’s leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
While speaking at a public forum in Wajir on Wednesday, March 5, Raila dismissed the idea of forming an alliance with Gachagua, arguing that he could not trust someone who had previously wished for his downfall.
Odinga’s remarks were met with widespread approval from Wajir residents, who vowed to stand by him as he moves forward with plans to formalize a broad-based government agreement with President Ruto.
