MP Urges Ruto to Offer Former CS Susan Nakhumicha a Job
Just a day after former Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Susan Nakhumicha revealed that she has been struggling financially since her dismissal in the 2024 cabinet reshuffle, leaders from the Western Region have appealed to President William Ruto to consider appointing her to another government position.
Speaking at the burial of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati on Saturday, March 8, Kiminini MP Maurice Kakai urged the president to recognize Nakhumicha’s capabilities and give her another role in his administration.
“Your Excellency, I strongly believe that Nakhumicha performed exceptionally well when she was in office. Mama Mary has already testified about her competence, kindness, and dedication.
As you continue restructuring the government, kindly remember Nakhumicha,” the MP stated.

In what seemed like a response to the request, President Ruto acknowledged the contributions of the former Health CS, praising her for the work she did during her tenure.
Nakhumicha was relieved of her duties in July 2024 during a major cabinet reshuffle, following intense anti-government protests that swept across the country.
Her dismissal was part of a broader move by the government to address public dissatisfaction, which saw several cabinet secretaries sent home. She was later replaced by Deborah Barasa, who took over the Health Ministry on August 8, 2024.
Since her removal from office, Nakhumicha has spoken openly about the challenges she has faced, particularly in adjusting to life outside government.
She noted that her distinct name continues to associate her with the Health CS position, making it difficult for her to interact freely with people.
The former minister even sought spiritual support from Bishop Jackson Ole Sapit, requesting prayers as she navigates through the struggles that followed her sudden dismissal.
“When people hear the name Nakhumicha, they immediately associate it with the Health CS position. I ask for your prayers because, despite the challenges, I trust that God has greater blessings ahead for me,” she said last year.
On Friday, March 8, Nakhumicha disclosed that she learned about her dismissal while watching television.
“Back in President Moi’s time, ministers would be fired through a radio announcement, but for us, it was different. I just sat in front of the television, and before I knew it, I heard that the entire cabinet had been dismissed. Since then, I have been relying on God’s guidance,” she explained.
The former CS also revealed that she has turned to farming as a means of survival and is currently growing and selling cabbages. However, she admitted that financial struggles have made it difficult to sustain herself.
“Since I lost my job, I have been focusing on farming, mainly growing cabbages. But life has not been easy, even raising contributions for burials has been a challenge. However, I managed. I ask you all to keep me in your prayers,” she added.

Her revelation has sparked concern among leaders, prompting calls for President Ruto to reconsider her for a government position.
