Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three individuals for drug trafficking after a successful raid in Kaloleni, Kilifi County.
The operation, carried out on Thursday, March 13, led to the seizure of six large sacks of bhang.
According to a report by the DCI, officers acted on a tip-off from members of the public, which led them to a house in Birya Village, Kaloleni Sub-County.
Upon arrival, the detectives discovered the three suspects in possession of the illegal substances, which were allegedly being prepared for transportation.
Authorities believe the consignment was destined for Bamburi before police intercepted the operation.
“The operation led to the discovery of six sacks of cannabis sativa, which were suspected to be on their way to Bamburi before the police successfully disrupted the plans,” a statement from the DCI read.
The law enforcement agency credited the successful bust to intelligence provided by vigilant citizens, emphasizing the role of community cooperation in fighting crime.
“Following crucial intelligence from members of the public, detectives based in Kaloleni acted swiftly, arresting three suspected drug traffickers and seizing six large sacks filled with bhang,” the agency confirmed.
The detectives targeted the residence of one of the suspects, where the three were found handling the drugs in preparation for transportation.
“After receiving intelligence reports, detectives swiftly moved in on Birya Village, Kaloleni Sub-County, where they found the three suspects operating from one of the suspect’s homes,” the DCI added.
This major bust comes just days after the DCI confirmed the destruction of a massive consignment of heroin and cocaine worth Ksh297 million. The illegal substances were seized in various anti-drug crackdowns conducted across the coastal region.
According to officials, the destroyed drugs included over 99 kilograms of heroin and 997 grams of cocaine. The burning of these narcotics took place at the Bamburi Cement Incinerator in Mombasa on Saturday, February 22.
The exercise was conducted under strict supervision by key government agencies, including the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the Government Chemist, the judiciary, and senior law enforcement officers.
“A total of 99 kilograms of heroin, confiscated in various anti-narcotics operations along the coast, were destroyed in a supervised incineration witnessed by the judiciary, ODPP, Government Chemist, and senior police officials in the region,” the DCI stated.
Authorities have assured the public that investigations into the latest arrest are ongoing, with efforts underway to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the region.
