Kimilili Member of Parliament, Didmus Barasa, has cautioned young people against attending a rally at Uhuru Park organized by INJECT party leader Morara Kebaso.
In a statement posted on his social media pages on Wednesday, March 19, Barasa alleged that Morara was misleading the public about his planned Jobless Rally Day event, which is set to take place on Monday, March 24.
Barasa Accuses Morara of Deception
The MP accused Morara of secretly working for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, claiming that the rally was not genuinely intended to help jobless youths but was instead a scheme for personal financial gain. According to Barasa, Morara would profit based on the number of attendees at the event.
He further alleged that the more people who show up at Uhuru Park, the more money Morara stands to make. Barasa urged the youth to be cautious, warning them that their struggles were being exploited for someone else’s benefit.
“Morara is calling upon young people to gather at Uhuru Park on Monday, March 24, for Jobless Rally Day while he himself has already secured a job from Wamunyoro and Gachagua. The more of you that attend, the more money he makes. Wake up, young people! Morara is playing you,” Barasa stated.
Morara Mobilizes Youths for the Rally
On the other hand, Morara Kebaso has been actively rallying unemployed youths to attend the event, arguing that it is meant to push for job creation and better living conditions.
In a video posted on his X account, Morara highlighted the difficult circumstances that young people in Kenya face due to high unemployment rates. He pointed out that many struggle to afford basic needs, making it nearly impossible for them to build stable futures.
He emphasized that the Jobless Rally Day would begin at 9:00 am in Nairobi, urging all jobless youths to participate and show the government how serious the issue of unemployment has become.
“We have consistently spoken about the harsh reality that young people in Kenya are jobless. Many cannot even afford food, cannot support themselves, and are unable to start families because of financial struggles. If you are an unemployed young person, then you are part of this movement.”
“We are forming the Jobless Youth Movement to fight for employment opportunities for the youth. On March 24, we will be at Uhuru Park for the nationwide Jobless Rally. If you can attend, make sure to be there at 9:00 am,” Morara declared.
INJECT Party Rejects Tribal Politics
In addition to mobilizing for the rally, Morara also took a firm stand against tribalism in politics. He emphasized that the INJECT Party does not base its political ideology on ethnic divisions, stating that they are open to working with other leaders and parties whose values align with theirs.
“The INJECT Party refuses to associate with leaders who promote tribal politics. We do not believe in using ethnic divisions as a strategy for political change. Our vision is to collaborate with like-minded leaders and political parties who share our values,” Morara stated.
However, he did not directly address the accusations made against him by MP Didmus Barasa.
