Gen Z Leader Fikirini Jacobs Nominated by President Ruto for PS Role

On Thursday, President William Ruto made significant changes to his administration by reshuffling key government positions.

The changes included promotions, reassignments, and fresh appointments to the Cabinet and other leadership roles.

Among those who benefited from the reshuffle was Fikirini Jacobs, a well-known youth leader and advocate for young people in Kenya.

President Ruto has consistently emphasized the importance of youth empowerment and inclusion in governance, and his nomination of Jacobs has been met with widespread excitement among young people across the country.

This move is seen as part of the President’s ongoing efforts to give young leaders a platform to contribute to national development.

Fikirini Jacobs Appointed as PS for Youth Affairs and Sports

Jacobs is one of the 14 newly nominated Principal Secretaries (PS), and he has been assigned to lead the State Department for Youth Affairs and Sports.

This department plays a crucial role in shaping policies that support young people in areas such as education, employment, and sports development.

Following his nomination, Jacobs expressed deep gratitude to President Ruto for trusting him with the responsibility. In a heartfelt message, he shared his excitement about the opportunity to serve Kenyan youth.

“I am deeply honored and humbled by my nomination as the Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs by His Excellency President William Ruto. I sincerely thank him for his confidence in my ability to serve and contribute to the government’s transformative agenda,” he wrote.

He further stated his commitment to working with all relevant stakeholders to uplift young people across the country.

“Our youth are the backbone of Kenya’s future, and I am committed to working tirelessly to create an environment that nurtures their talents, supports their ambitions, and unlocks endless opportunities for them,” Jacobs added.

Fikirini Jacobs’ Journey in Politics

At just 28 years old, Jacobs has already made a name for himself in the political space. He has been actively involved in youth leadership and currently serves as the Kilifi youth leader for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). His leadership journey began during his university days, where he held student leadership positions at both Maasai Mara University and Pwani University.

Jacobs graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Pwani University. Since completing his studies, he has remained actively engaged in politics and governance.

Previously, he served as the Director of the Governor’s Service Delivery Unit in Kilifi County, working under Governor Gideon Mung’aro. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing service delivery and ensuring that government projects met the needs of Kilifi residents.

Raila-Aligned Leaders Applaud Jacobs’ Appointment

Jacobs’ appointment has drawn praise from various leaders, including those from the ODM party. Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro and ODM’s Communication Director Philip Etale were among those who congratulated him on his new role.

“Congratulations to Fikirini Jacobs on your well-earned appointment as Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and Sports. Your unwavering dedication to serving young people is truly commendable. This position is a reflection of your hard work, commitment, and determination,” Governor Mung’aro stated.

Other Key Appointments in Ruto’s Government Reshuffle

Apart from Jacobs, several other leaders were also nominated in the government shake-up. Some of the notable appointments include:

  • Jane Kare Imbunya – Principal Secretary for Public Services and Human Capital Development
  • Regina Akoth Ombam – Principal Secretary for Trade
  • Cyrell Wagunda Odede – Principal Secretary for Public Investment and Asset Management
  • Caroline Wanjiru Karugu – Principal Secretary for East African Community Affairs (known to be allied with Raila Odinga)
  • Oluga Fredrick Ouma – Principal Secretary for Medical Services
  • Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim – Principal Secretary for National Government Coordination

The reshuffle is expected to enhance government service delivery and strengthen leadership in various sectors.

Many see these appointments as part of President Ruto’s broader vision of creating an inclusive government that brings in fresh energy and new perspectives.

Jacobs’ nomination is particularly significant as it represents a new chapter for young leaders in Kenya.

Many young people have expressed optimism that his leadership will bring meaningful change to the youth sector, opening doors for more opportunities in education, employment, and talent development.
