NTSA Starts New Inspection on Super Metro Vehicles After Suspension

Following protests from Super Metro owners over the National Transport and Safety Authority’s (NTSA) decision to suspend the company’s vehicles, Super Metro has now complied with the authority’s request for vehicle inspections.

A video obtained by Newshub.co.ke captured Super Metro’s vehicles lined up at the NTSA inspection center as part of their efforts to meet traffic safety regulations.

The footage showed numerous Super Metro minibuses waiting in line at the NTSA office on Likoni Road in Nairobi for the required inspection.

In another video, several Super Metro buses were seen parked at the Kitengela Bus Park, while others were spotted stationary in Juja, Kiambu County.

This move follows growing public criticism after the bus company allegedly continued operations despite the suspension.

However, on Thursday, March 20, Super Metro owners strongly denied the claims made by NTSA. They described the decision to suspend the company’s license as not only unfair but also damaging to the company’s reputation and its employees.

They argued that the allegations against them were outdated and false, as they had already addressed any previous concerns raised by NTSA and fully complied with the regulations.

Super Metro officials expressed their dissatisfaction, stating that the suspension was particularly harmful to the thousands of workers who rely on the company for their livelihood.

They emphasized that as one of Kenya’s major employers in the transport sector, the blanket ban on their operations posed a serious threat to the financial stability of their workforce. It also disrupted the essential services provided to many passengers.

On the morning of Thursday, March 20, NTSA had announced the suspension of Super Metro’s operations, citing the company’s failure to comply with the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) regulations.

In a formal statement, NTSA clarified that the suspension was aimed at ensuring the company not only complied with regulations but also implemented necessary safety measures to protect passengers.

The NTSA statement read: “This is to notify the public that the authority has suspended Super Metro Limited’s operator license until the company fully complies with the Public Service Vehicles Regulations, 2014, and other relevant conditions.”

The statement also advised the public not to board any Super Metro buses and warned that the Traffic Department would impound any vehicles operating against the suspension orders.
