Waiguru Hits Back to Critics of SHA Amid Fall Out With Doctors

Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, has strongly defended the government’s Taifa Care initiative under the Universal Health Coverage program, urging Kenyans to disregard the voices of politicians who are attempting to hinder its implementation.

During the launch of digital healthcare devices, Waiguru encouraged citizens to register for the program in large numbers, emphasizing that Taifa Care is already making significant improvements to healthcare services in Kenya.

“Some individuals have been appearing on the media, claiming that Taifa Care is not working. I have refrained from responding so far because this is the time to focus on hard work and fulfill the promises we’ve made,” Waiguru remarked.

The Governor also advised Kenyans not to be influenced by politicians who are discouraging registration, pointing out that these same politicians have their own private health insurance.

Waiguru Hits Back at SHA Critics Amid Fall Out With Doctors”Do not listen to politicians; they have their own health insurance while advising you not to sign up for this program.

Fortunately, our people are registering in great numbers, and I’m confident that we are not just second in the country, but number one,” she proudly declared.

Waiguru highlighted that Taifa Care is transforming healthcare delivery by making services more accessible and affordable for all.

“With this system in place, I can monitor hospital activities directly from my computer. I can track the number of patients visiting each facility, assess the demand for services, and ensure that hospitals are properly stocked with the necessary supplies,” she explained.

She further noted that the program’s digitization has significantly boosted revenue collection in county hospitals. “Previously, we struggled to generate enough revenue, managing to collect around Ksh130 million to Ksh140 million.

But this year, we’ve set a target of Ksh200 million, and even before March is over, we’ve already surpassed that target,” Waiguru revealed.

Looking ahead, she shared that they expect revenue to hit Ksh300 million by June, and by the end of the year, they plan to have met the Ksh300 million target.

This success, according to Waiguru, has been made possible by the Taifa Care program and payments made through the Social Health Authority (SHA). She mentioned that SHA has already paid Ksh75 million out of the total Ksh103 million owed.

“If anyone doubts whether Taifa Care is working, I invite them to visit Kirinyaga County and see the impact for themselves,” Waiguru concluded, reaffirming her commitment to the program’s success and its positive effects on healthcare delivery in the region.
