CS Mudavadi Condemns Attack on MP Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has strongly criticized the assault on Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, which took place at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, March 23.
Mudavadi described the incident as a sign of deepening divisions and a lack of respect in the political space.
In a statement issued on the same day, Mudavadi expressed his disappointment over the attack, emphasizing that political intolerance weakens democracy.
“What happened to Hon. Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium today is deeply unfortunate. Our democracy thrives on the ability to engage in discussions despite holding different views.
Political intolerance goes against the very foundation of what makes our democracy strong,” Mudavadi stated.
He further stressed the importance of mutual respect and unity, urging Kenyans to uphold constructive dialogue instead of resorting to hostility.
“We may not always agree with each other, and that is perfectly normal. However, respect, open discussions, and unity should never be compromised.
Respect should be given, but it must also be earned. We, as Kenyans, are the only ones who can build this nation. If we allow division to take over, we risk destroying everything we have worked so hard to build,” he added.
Mudavadi called on Kenyans to embrace reasoning and maturity in handling differences, insisting that division could bring instability.
“A nation that is divided cannot stand. Let us choose wisdom over chaos and maturity over unnecessary conflicts. The future of Kenya depends on it,” he stated.
MP Salasya Attacked and Ejected from Nyayo Stadium
MP Peter Salasya endured a distressing experience during Kenya’s World Cup qualifier match against Gabon, which attracted thousands of fans.
The legislator was attacked by a section of the crowd before being forcefully led out of the stadium. Videos shared online show him struggling to break free as an irate group of supporters confronted him.
At one point, some individuals attempted to grab him forcefully, while another person hurled what appeared to be a plastic container in his direction.
The altercation continued outside the stadium, with a large crowd surrounding the MP as they urged him to leave the premises.
While the exact reason for his ejection remains unclear, some supporters were heard chanting, “Respect the President,” suggesting that the incident may have been linked to remarks or actions by the MP regarding President William Ruto.
Following the ordeal, Salasya took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to react to the incident. He assured his followers that he was not shaken, maintaining that the people of Kenya would stand by him.
“Kenyans are waking up soon, and if anything happens to me, it will lead to serious consequences in this country. I will issue a statement tomorrow morning,” he wrote.
