Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has alleged that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is planning to arrest him in what he describes as a politically motivated scheme.
Speaking to the public on Thursday, March 27, Babu Owino claimed he had received credible intelligence that EACC detectives were planning to raid his office in Donholm, Nairobi.
According to him, the operation could take place either this week or next week.
The outspoken legislator further revealed that top government officials had recently held a secret meeting to strategize on his arrest. He believes the ultimate goal of this plan is to force him into supporting the current administration.
Babu Owino insisted that the plot is part of a larger agenda to tarnish his name and weaken his growing influence in Kenyan politics.
He claimed that the authorities were preparing trumped-up corruption charges against him in an attempt to silence his criticism of the government.
“I received reliable information from serious sources that EACC detectives are planning to storm our offices in Donholm. If they don’t do it this week, they will do it next week,” he stated.
“Their plan is very clear—they want to bring Babu down and create the impression that there are corruption scandals in Embakasi East,” he added.
The MP also dismissed allegations that he bribed Auditor General Nancy Gathungu to manipulate audit reports for Embakasi East constituency projects. He described the accusations as baseless and meant to discredit him.
While criticizing the government’s approach, Babu Owino urged the EACC to remain independent and avoid being used for political witch hunts. He emphasized that his office is always open for scrutiny and that the commission can access any project-related information they require.
“I want to remind the EACC that they are an independent institution and should not allow themselves to be influenced by political interests. My office is open at all times; if they need information on any project, they are welcome to come and verify everything,” he stated.
He further defended himself, stating that no company linked to him, his family, or his close associates had been awarded any tenders in Embakasi East. He emphasized that all contracts follow proper procurement procedures.
“None of my companies has ever been given a contract in Embakasi East. None of my friends have received any tenders. We strictly follow the laid-out procurement laws,” he asserted.
Despite the alleged intimidation, Babu Owino vowed to continue serving his constituents and standing up for what he believes is right.
He declared that no amount of pressure from the government would stop him from working for the people of Embakasi East and speaking out on important national issues.
