Gachagua Apologizes to Kenyans for Supporting Ruto, Accuses Him of Deception
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked Kenyans to forgive him for backing President William Ruto in the 2022 general elections, admitting that he was also misled.
Speaking to residents of Kiserian in Kajiado County on Thursday afternoon, Gachagua criticized the President, accusing him of repeatedly lying to Kenyans and failing to fulfill his promises.
The former DP claimed that, just like millions of Kenyans, he too was deceived into supporting Ruto, believing he was the right leader for the country. He expressed regret for his decision and vowed to rally Kenyans to push Ruto out of office.
“I am asking for your forgiveness. The man also fooled me. He came with a Bible, presenting himself as a Christian, only for me to realize later that he was a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” Gachagua stated.
He further accused the President of betraying Kenyans, saying that instead of delivering on his pledges, he had made life harder for the citizens.
“He lied to us. He promised to give us money, but instead, he returned and took the little we had left,” Gachagua added.
Gachagua to Launch His Own Political Party
During his address, Gachagua revealed that he would officially launch his political party in May. He emphasized that the party’s leadership would be made up of individuals directly chosen by the people.
According to the former DP, his party will field candidates in all elective positions, from the presidency down to the Member of County Assembly (MCA) level.
“We have made the decision to form our own political party. The people of Kajiado will have a significant role in its leadership, and we will officially unveil it in the fifth month of this year,” he announced.
“Our party will have candidates in every political position, including the presidency, governors, senators, Members of Parliament, and MCAs,” he added.
Ongoing Clashes with the Government
Since his impeachment in October last year, Gachagua has emerged as one of the fiercest critics of President Ruto’s administration.
He has accused the government of failing to address key issues affecting Kenyans, including the high cost of living.
However, his confrontations with the administration have not been without tension and hostility. In one of the most recent incidents, chaos erupted at the ACK Cathedral in Nyeri Town, where a group of youths blocked him from leaving the church.
The standoff, which happened on Sunday, March 23, forced police officers to intervene after a crowd gathered outside the church, allegedly waiting to confront the former DP.
Gachagua’s growing opposition to Ruto’s leadership continues to spark political debate, with many waiting to see his next move as he prepares to unveil his new political party.
