On Friday night, top leaders from different levels of government—including the Senate, National Assembly, Cabinet, and county governments—were honored for their exceptional performance in public service.

The prestigious Politrack Africa Star Leaders Awards recognized various leaders for their dedication and service to the nation.

Among the notable winners was Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who emerged as the Best Member of Parliament (MP), securing the top spot among all MPs in Kenya.

Mavoko MP Patrick Makau ranked third, while Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, secured the fourth position in Nairobi and the 17th spot nationwide.

Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Jalang’o acknowledged that there was still room for improvement, vowing to work harder for an even higher ranking next time.

“Last night at the 2025 Politrack Star Leaders Gala Night, we were honored among the best-performing MPs. Ranked fourth in Nairobi and 17th in the country—not where we want to be yet, but it’s a step in the right direction. Pole pole tutafika (slowly but surely, we will get there),” Jalang’o wrote in a tweet.

Newly appointed Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Geofrey Ruku also received an award, being recognized as the fourth-best MP for his performance before transitioning to his current role in the Cabinet.

Other MPs who received recognition included Eldas MP Adan Keynan, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, and Matungulu MP Stephen Mule.

Governors Who Made the Cut

In the gubernatorial category, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu was crowned as the Best Governor in Kenya. He was followed by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who secured the second position. Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Mohamed and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru tied at third place.

Other governors who received awards for their service included Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, and Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif.

Best Senators in Kenya

In the Senate category, Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda was recognized as the Best Performing Senator. He was closely followed by Migori Senator Eddie Oketch, who secured the second spot, while Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka took third place. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was ranked fifth best senator in the country.

Despite not securing the best governor or senator title, Nairobi County still received recognition through its Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, who was awarded as the Best Chief Officer in the country.

Recognition for Principal Secretaries and Cabinet Secretaries

Following his recent reassignment to the Education Ministry as Principal Secretary (PS), Julius Bitok was honored as the Best PS in Kenya, based on his previous performance at the Immigration and Citizen Services Department. PS Alex Wachira came in second, followed by PS Mary Muthoni in third place.

In the Cabinet Secretary (CS) category, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi emerged as the Best CS in Kenya. Tourism CS Rebecca Miano came in second, followed by Water CS Eric Mugaa in third place.

Lands CS Alice Wahome secured the fourth position, while Mining CS Ali Hassan Joho took the fifth spot.

The Purpose of the Awards

The Politrack Africa Star Leaders Awards aim to recognize and celebrate excellence in leadership and governance across different levels of government in Kenya.

The awards focus on outstanding contributions in public service, policy implementation, and overall impact on citizens’ lives.

The recognition of these leaders serves as both a celebration of their efforts and a motivation for them to continue improving service delivery to the people.

As the country moves forward, such awards play a vital role in holding public servants accountable while encouraging good governance and efficiency in leadership.
