Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah encountered a rough reception after being heckled by a furious crowd while addressing them in the presence of President William Ruto on Thursday, April 3.
Ichung’wah was among the high-ranking officials who accompanied President Ruto to Ol Kalou Town for the launch of the Last Mile Connectivity project.
The event is part of the president’s ongoing efforts to commission state-funded projects across the Mt Kenya region.
During Ruto’s speech, the residents of Nyandarua appeared to be relatively calm and attentive. However, the atmosphere changed drastically when Ichung’wah took the microphone.
Videos reviewed by Newshub.co.ke show a visibly agitated crowd erupting into loud jeers and whistles as the Kikuyu Member of Parliament attempted to speak. The uproar disrupted his speech, forcing him to pause as the protests grew louder.
Despite the commotion, Ichung’wah made an effort to push through his address by greeting the audience. However, his attempt to engage the crowd was met with even louder heckling, making it difficult for him to continue.
“Mr President, the people of Kware understand that affordable housing is now a reality, and all the work here should be assigned to the youth,” Ichung’wah stated, seemingly trying to calm the protesters.
Unfortunately, his words did little to pacify the angry residents, who continued to drown his speech with shouts and boos.
Meanwhile, President Ruto assured Nyandarua residents of ongoing government projects in the region.
He specifically mentioned the construction of eight new markets, which he emphasized would provide local farmers with a stable and structured environment to sell their produce without unnecessary challenges.
According to the president, procurement processes for the markets were already underway, with some of them—such as those in Ndaragua and Mile Kumi—already 60 percent complete.
