Malala Criticises Ruto for Launching ‘Bedsitters’ as Major Projects

Malala Criticises Ruto for Launching ‘Bedsitters’ as Major Projects

Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General, Cleophas Malala, has come out strongly against President William Ruto’s development projects, saying they are far less impactful compared to what past presidents accomplished.

Speaking during a church service at PCEA Kasarani East on Sunday, April 6, Malala expressed disappointment in Ruto’s leadership and claimed that the president has not initiated any major project that could secure him a meaningful legacy once he leaves office.

Malala zeroed in on Ruto’s affordable housing plan, which has been widely promoted by the president as one of his main achievements.

He dismissed the houses being built under the project, referring to them as “bedsitters” and arguing that such small units are not enough to be considered a transformative development.

“We remember President Mwai Kibaki for introducing free primary education, building the Thika Superhighway, and reviving the economy during his time.

Uhuru Kenyatta also left a mark through the Standard Gauge Railway, the Nairobi Expressway, and the Mau Mau roads.

But when it comes to President Ruto, there is hardly anything to remember. Instead of launching mega projects, he is cutting ribbons for bedsitters and posing for photos inside the tiny rooms with children. Is that really something to boast about as a head of state?” Malala asked.

He urged Kenyans to offer prayers of gratitude for the past four presidents and their families, acknowledging their efforts in improving the country’s economy and infrastructure.

According to Malala, Ruto has fallen short in comparison, and this year—his second in office—should be a turning point if he wants to build a real legacy.

Malala also condemned a violent incident that took place at the same church during the Sunday service, where hired youths allegedly stormed the venue, forcing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to be escorted out by his security.

Malala described the attack as “inhuman” and claimed it was planned and executed under the direction of President Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

“We know very well that money was handed out to youth through the governor. Security at the church was deliberately withdrawn on orders from above, all to ensure that these youths could carry out their mission of intimidating and ejecting the former DP.

Their goal was not to disrupt the service, but to embarrass and humiliate Gachagua,” Malala claimed.

He went on to urge President Ruto to put aside his differences with the Deputy President and reflect on the journey they have shared in politics before turning against each other.

Malala called for an end to politically-motivated attacks, especially those carried out in sacred places like churches.

Showing open support for Gachagua, Malala praised him as an honest leader who is not afraid to speak the truth.

He commended the DP for boldly telling the president that the country is headed in the wrong direction, even if the message was not well received.

“You have always spoken your mind, and you were brave enough to warn the president about the dangerous path the country is taking. He may not have listened then, but now the signs are clear for all to see,” Malala said.

The chaos in Kasarani on Sunday led to security personnel attached to the Deputy President firing warning shots into the air to disperse the rowdy group that had invaded the church.

Gachagua, who described the incident as “insensitive and unkind,” accused President Ruto of going too far by allegedly funding and deploying goons to disrupt a church service.

“My President, what has become of you? Sending goons into a place of worship? That is crossing a line. You sent them to Limuru last week, then to Nyeri, and now to church.

You’ve taken this political war to a dangerous level,” Gachagua stated.
