Governor Wavinya Ndeti Invites EACC to Investigate Her Administration Amid Impeachment Talk
Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has openly welcomed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to visit the county and carry out investigations into her leadership, following growing political pressure and rising talk of impeachment.
While addressing the public on Tuesday, April 8, Governor Ndeti made it clear that she has nothing to hide and wants the commission to get the full truth about her administration from the source rather than relying on false claims and propaganda spread by political critics.
“I want to encourage the EACC and all relevant government agencies to stop acting on misleading reports.
Instead, come to Machakos County and carry out your own independent investigations,” she said firmly. “If you require any documents, clarification, or information, my administration will cooperate fully.
That way, you’ll be able to separate truth from lies. As the Governor of Machakos County, I am not afraid of scrutiny.”
Her remarks come amid swirling rumors of an impeachment plan reportedly being fronted by Muthwani Ward MCA Dominic Maitha, who is believed to be closely aligned with former governor and current Labour Cabinet Secretary, Alfred Mutua.
Just a few days earlier, Governor Ndeti issued a strongly-worded statement aimed at CS Mutua, urging him to steer clear of Machakos County affairs.
She reminded him that his time as governor had ended and accused him of attempting to interfere with her leadership.
“Mutua, you are no longer the Governor of Machakos. Let go of the county and allow me to carry out my duties without interference,” she said.
“I was elected by the people to serve them, and I intend to stay focused on that mission. I will not allow external forces or political intimidation to destabilize my administration.”
She further warned those attempting to disrupt her government that their efforts would not succeed.
“To our critics and political schemers, I’m sending a clear message — your plans to derail our work will fail. I am committed to the people of Machakos and will not allow anyone to shake the progress we are making.”
In response to the growing tensions, CS Alfred Mutua came out on Sunday to clarify that he is not involved in any efforts to remove Wavinya from office.
He publicly distanced himself from any impeachment initiatives, saying he does not support moves to unseat any governor in the larger Ukambani region.
Mutua stressed the need for peace and unity among the region’s political leaders, saying that the constant infighting is harming development efforts and negatively affecting residents.
He recalled the challenges he faced during his own time as governor and how political wrangles made service delivery difficult.
“When I served as the Governor of Machakos alongside Kivutha Kibwana in Makueni and Charity Ngilu in Kitui, we constantly faced political opposition.
Our development projects were often blocked, and this hurt the very people we were trying to help,” Mutua said.
“I see the same thing happening again in Ukambani. There are threats of impeachment hanging over various leaders, and this is dangerous. When the rich and powerful fight, it’s the ordinary citizens who suffer the most.
I appeal to all Ukambani leaders to come together in unity, so that we can bring real development to our people and avoid repeating the same mistakes of the past,” he added.
The political tension in Machakos and the wider Ukambani region continues to build, but Governor Ndeti remains firm, insisting she will not be distracted from her work.
She continues to enjoy support from a section of county leaders and residents who believe her focus on development should be protected from political interference.
