A police officer stationed at Naroosura Police Station in Narok County is being investigated after allegedly assaulting a woman in broad daylight.
The woman was reportedly left with visible injuries after the officer attacked her while she was at the station to report a personal dispute involving her husband.
The woman said she had gone to the police station to seek help in a case concerning a motorcycle she co-owned with her husband. She explained that the two had bought the motorcycle together, but things changed when her husband started an affair with another woman.
To make things worse, he began using the money earned from the motorcycle to support his new relationship, leaving his wife without any income.
Feeling betrayed and desperate, the woman turned to the police for help, hoping her husband would be summoned and the matter resolved fairly.
However, what followed shocked her. Instead of receiving assistance, she claims the officer turned violent and began hitting her on her lower body with blunt objects. The incident happened in public, leaving her humiliated and in pain.
Eyewitnesses and nearby residents reportedly had to intervene to stop the assault. Her children later rushed her to Naroosura Health Centre, where she was treated for multiple injuries and released on Monday.
According to the medical report seen by Newshub.co.ke, the woman suffered soft tissue damage and was categorized as having sustained “grievous harm.”
Despite being the victim, the woman said it was not easy to get the matter officially recorded. She eventually managed to file an assault report under Occurrence Book (OB) number 7/19/4/2025 at around 6:05 p.m.
However, she has expressed deep concerns that she may not get justice. The officer who assaulted her is allegedly being shielded by his superiors, raising fears of a possible cover-up.
The woman also revealed that her initial attempt to file the case was rejected at the station. It took the intervention of higher-ranking administrative officers for her complaint to be accepted and an OB number to be issued.
The case has now attracted the attention of senior police leadership and gender-based violence (GBV) activists, who are calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the victim.
This troubling incident comes at a time when cases of police misconduct and gender-based violence are on the rise in Kenya.
From September 2023 to December 2024, over 7,100 GBV cases were reported, including more than 100 women killed since August 2024.
In light of this ongoing crisis, the Kenyan government has declared gender-based violence a national security threat.
A special police unit has also been formed to tackle the increasing number of GBV incidents and ensure victims receive the protection and justice they deserve.
