DCI Takes Over Investigation Into the Mysterious Death of Nairobi MCA Joel Munuve
The unexpected death of Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve has taken a dramatic turn after Thursday’s planned postmortem was postponed to allow the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to officially join the probe.
Munuve’s death has sparked widespread speculation, especially after it was revealed that he had been preparing to present an impeachment motion against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
This development has led the family to seek deeper investigations into the circumstances surrounding his passing.
Speaking to the press, the family’s legal representative, Danstan Omari, confirmed that the postmortem would not go ahead as earlier scheduled.
He explained that the delay was to give room for the DCI and other key stakeholders to participate in the process.
Omari emphasized that the family is entitled to bring in a private pathologist of their choice to witness the procedure, alongside the government-appointed team.
“We have confirmed that a specialized unit from the DCI will work together with the government pathologists to conduct the postmortem,” he stated.
“The family can appoint their own private pathologist, and so can the Nairobi County Assembly. The law does not prevent anyone from having an independent expert during such a critical process,” Omari added, highlighting the seriousness of the case.
Joel Munuve, who was elected as an independent candidate in a county dominated by party politics, had earned a reputation as a fearless advocate for transparency and accountability.
Many considered him a strong and independent voice in a political environment where such traits are rare.
His sudden death on Tuesday shocked many within the Nairobi County Assembly. According to reports, Munuve was headed to the city center when he began experiencing intense chest pain.
Despite efforts to get him medical attention at a hospital on Kiambu Road, he passed away before he could be treated.
On Wednesday, Governor Sakaja called for restraint amid the rising political tension and speculations about Munuve’s death.
While speaking on Citizen TV, Sakaja emphasized the need to wait for official findings before making any assumptions.
He said, “I want to send my deepest condolences to the family of Joel Munuve, the Kariobangi North MCA who tragically passed away after collapsing.
I don’t understand why people are calling it an execution—the autopsy results are expected tomorrow.”
He continued, “Death is a serious matter. It should not be politicized or joked about. Munuve was passionate and firm in everything he stood for.
We must carry out a full investigation to address all these political suspicions and find out the truth.”
Munuve had been openly critical of Governor Sakaja’s administration. He had consistently demanded answers about various county projects, and he had recently requested a formal statement regarding Sakaja’s “Dishi na County” school feeding initiative.
His untimely death shortly after this move has only deepened concerns and fueled calls for transparency and justice.
As investigations continue, the public, family, and fellow politicians await the findings, hoping that the truth behind Joel Munuve’s mysterious death will finally come to light.
