Stephen Odhiambo, the man who was filmed dangerously hanging on a helicopter carrying popular YouTuber Oga Obinna at a wedding in Migori, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

The incident, which attracted widespread attention, took place during a wedding in Rapogi village.

Odhiambo, who has since become known as ‘Migori James Bond,’ faced charges of engaging in a disorderly act that endangered the safety of the helicopter and its passengers.

In court, the man pleaded guilty to the charges, prompting Senior Principal Magistrate Mathias Okuche to issue the sentence.

As an alternative to imprisonment, Odhiambo was given the option to pay a fine of Ksh500,000.

The sentence followed a brief detention period of seven days, which was used to conduct an investigation into the incident.

During the court proceedings, Odhiambo expressed regret over his actions and pleaded for a more lenient punishment. His remorse did not affect the court’s decision to impose the sentence.

Odhiambo’s arrest came nearly two weeks after a video of him hanging from the helicopter went viral on social media.

The arrest occurred on April 15, when police apprehended him after he sneaked back into his house at midnight.

Uriri OCPD, Enrico Lyomu, confirmed the arrest, revealing that the suspect had initially resisted and attempted to escape before being subdued, handcuffed, and taken to the police station.

Witnesses to the incident included two police officers, who gave testimony during the trial. The helicopter pilot, who also testified, described the dangerous situation, noting that Odhiambo’s actions not only endangered his life but also the lives of the five passengers aboard the helicopter.

The pilot stated that security officers had instructed everyone to stay at least 10 meters away from the chopper before it took off.

Despite the warning, Odhiambo insisted on boarding, and when he was refused, he resorted to hanging from the helicopter as it ascended into the air.

The shocking event took place on Sunday, April 13, right after the wedding of famous Ohangla musician Prince Indah in Rapogi.

As the ceremony concluded and guests were departing, Odhiambo’s daring stunt caught the attention of many.

Shortly after the incident, he was seen bragging to a group of villagers, claiming that he was prepared to hang from the helicopter all the way to Nairobi if necessary.

His bold and reckless behavior sparked debates and concerns about public safety, leading to the legal action that followed.
