Baringo North Member of Parliament Joseph Makilap has openly called on President William Ruto to dismiss Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen, over what he termed as incompetence and failure to handle security matters in the country.
Speaking passionately, Makilap accused Murkomen of neglecting his duties and instead spending time on social media, where he allegedly fuels divisions and incites the public rather than addressing the growing insecurity in regions like Baringo.
“My people in Baringo North have done no wrong to anyone,” said Makilap. “But the one bringing us problems and showing us disrespect is your minister, Mr. President.
We are asking you to fire him. He is a liability to your government. Instead of dealing with the worsening security issues, Murkomen is always online posting and making provocative comments.”
Makilap, who represents the Arror region, stated clearly that the local residents had rejected Murkomen, blaming him for weakening the unity and image of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
He emphasized that while other leaders worked hard to build the current government, Murkomen is now spoiling it with his actions and words.
His comments followed an incident on Friday, where Murkomen allegedly insulted the people of Baringo North during a peace meeting held at Kampi Samaki.
Murkomen reportedly accused the residents of engaging in outdated forms of banditry, remarks that did not sit well with locals and leaders alike.
Makilap condemned the comments as highly reckless, insulting, and insensitive, especially considering the suffering of many innocent people in Baringo who live in fear every day due to persistent insecurity.
He said such language showed Murkomen was disconnected from the reality on the ground and lacked the leadership qualities needed for his position.
He firmly defended the Arror community, insisting they are peaceful citizens who deserve support and respect from the government—not to be branded as criminals.
“Instead of implementing proper strategies to restore peace and protect people, the Interior CS is busy mocking innocent communities and trying to shift blame,” Makilap stated. “Mr. Murkomen, you are a disgrace and an embarrassment to the government we fought to bring to power.”
The MP further accused Murkomen of abandoning his primary duty—to safeguard the lives and property of Kenyans.
He warned that the government’s failure to act quickly and decisively on matters of security could lead to the erosion of public trust.
According to him, blaming victims of insecurity only increases social stigma and damages the relationship between citizens and state institutions.
Makilap called on President Ruto’s administration to urgently take serious steps, such as disarming criminal gangs, boosting the presence of security forces in dangerous areas, and keeping politics out of issues involving national safety.
“We are tired of careless words from senior officials who should be protecting us. What we want is action—real and urgent action,” he emphasized.
This growing tension between leaders from the Rift Valley and officials in the national government comes at a time when insecurity in Baringo County is rising again, sparking fresh fears and calls for immediate intervention.
