Two men have each been sentenced to 28 years in prison after a Kilifi court found them guilty of defilement.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) announced on Tuesday, May 27, that the two men, aged 21 and 19, were convicted of defiling a 16-year-old girl on the night of February 9, 2024, in Mwambetsungu village, Kilifi.
According to the ODPP, the victim had gone out around 10 p.m. to get her shoes when the two men, who were her neighbors, confronted her.
Even though the 19-year-old did not directly take part in the defilement, he did nothing to stop it. Instead, he held a knife and threatened to hurt the girl. Meanwhile, the 21-year-old covered her mouth and defiled her.
Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa said, “After reviewing the prosecution’s evidence and the defense, the court is satisfied that the charge of gang defilement has been proven beyond doubt. The accused are found guilty and convicted.”
This decision was made almost two months after the Milimani Children’s Court sentenced a Dutch man to 10 years in prison for 10 counts of child pornography, sexual communication with a child, indecent acts with a child, and child abuse.
The ODPP said on March 4 that the suspect was found guilty of six counts of child pornography, two counts of sexual communication with a child, one count of committing an indecent act with a child, and one count of child abuse.
These offenses happened between April 2022 and November 2023.
Besides the 10 years in prison, the 73-year-old man was fined Ksh 3 million as compensation to the victims.
The court also ordered that the suspect be deported after finishing his prison sentence.
The ODPP described the case as, “A 73-year-old Dutch national convicted on 10 counts of child pornography, sexual communication with a child, indecent acts with a child, and child abuse.”
