Grace Nduta, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kanyenyaini Ward in Murang’a County, also known by her nickname “Alias City”, has reportedly been arrested in connection with the mysterious disappearance of Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi.
According to reliable sources, Nduta was taken into custody by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and transported to a police post in Gatanga.
Authorities have listed her as a person of interest in the ongoing probe into the circumstances surrounding MP Koimburi’s alleged abduction.
In a statement released on Thursday evening, the DCI officially confirmed the arrest, indicating that Grace Nduta is directly involved in the investigations regarding what they have described as a stage-managed abduction of the Juja MP.
“We confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu has been arrested today as part of an active investigation into the allegedly staged abduction of Hon. George Koimburi,” the DCI stated.
The news about her arrest emerged on the afternoon of Thursday, May 29, after Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata raised alarm on social media.
Posting on X (formerly known as Twitter), Governor Kang’ata revealed that unidentified individuals had taken the MCA under unclear circumstances.
Governor Kang’ata’s statement also claimed that the MCA was being detained at Samuru Police Post in Gatanga, although this information was initially unverified.
“Detectives have taken into custody Kanyenyaini Ward MCA, Grace Nduta, in connection with the suspected abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi,” Kang’ata shared on X.
Further investigations by Kenyans.co.ke uncovered that law enforcement agencies strongly believe MCA Nduta was with Koimburi during the time when his alleged disappearance was making rounds on social media and news outlets.
Although earlier reports had indicated that the MCA was attending a church service on May 25—the same day Koimburi was said to have gone missing—the DCI now claims otherwise.
According to their findings, Nduta was allegedly spotted at a bar and restaurant in Gatundu South, where she was seen in the company of the Juja legislator.
Sources familiar with the case revealed that prior to her arrest, Nduta had received a phone call from an unknown person who had requested a meeting to discuss official matters. Upon her arrival at the agreed location, she was reportedly apprehended.
The MCA’s personal driver also confirmed this account, saying he had dropped her at a hotel to meet with the caller. However, just moments after driving off, he noticed something suspicious.
“I dropped her at the hotel and left, but soon after, I saw a vehicle nearby with its windows slightly open. I felt uneasy and decided to call her to check in. That’s when I was told she had been taken away by three unknown individuals,” the driver recounted.
Close associates of Grace Nduta believe that her arrest may be politically motivated due to her known support for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Nduta has been among the few vocal MCAs who have shown open allegiance to the Deputy President, which some believe could have made her a political target.
As pressure mounts for answers regarding the bizarre turn of events involving MP Koimburi’s alleged abduction, the government has maintained that there was no actual kidnapping.
The Juja MP was found on Monday in a coffee plantation in Kiambu County, and the state now suspects the incident may have been orchestrated.
Several Members of Parliament have since demanded a thorough investigation into the entire saga.
They are urging authorities to ensure all those found responsible—regardless of status or affiliation—face legal consequences for any wrongdoing in this suspicious case.
