Gachagua’s DCP Party Announces Major Leadership Changes and New Headquarters
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political outfit, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has made significant changes to its top leadership and relocated its headquarters.
These updates were officially published in a gazette notice dated May 30, 2025.
According to the notice issued by Ann Nderitu, the Registrar of Political Parties, DCP is exercising its powers under section 20 (1)(c) and (e) of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D, to restructure its leadership and administrative setup. The registrar confirmed that the party has initiated changes to several of its key leadership positions.
In the newly announced appointments, David Mingati Parseina has been named the new National Chairperson of DCP, replacing the outgoing chairperson, Thomas Ratemo. This shift is seen as part of a broader effort to inject new energy into the party’s national leadership.
Hezron Obanga has been selected as the new Secretary General of the party. He takes over from Mably Owino, who previously served in the same capacity.
This role is crucial for the day-to-day running of the party’s affairs, including coordinating communication and strategy.
Additionally, the position of Deputy Secretary General for Operations has seen a transition. Martin Ole Kamwalo is stepping in to fill this role, taking over from Hussein Athman, who previously held the position.
Significant changes have also been made in the finance department of the party. Laura Njeri has been relieved of her duties as the National Treasurer. She has been replaced by Annah Kavuu Mutua, who will now be responsible for overseeing the party’s financial affairs and budget management.
The Deputy Treasurer for Operations position has also changed hands. The new appointee, Everngeline Wanjira Njoka, will replace Abdifatah Abdullahi in this key operational role.
In a strategic appointment aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots organization, former Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Mithika Linturi, has been appointed as the new National Organising Secretary. He will take over from Joy Gatugi.
This appointment is expected to bring high-level experience and coordination skills to the party’s mobilization structure.
Meanwhile, Abubakar Abdi Ogle has been named the new Deputy Organising Secretary – Operations, replacing Jeremiah Mong’eri. His role will involve supporting the organizing secretary in implementing party activities across various regions.
In the women’s wing of the party, DCP has made a bold move by dismissing Miriam Fredina Mariki from the position of National Women’s Caucus Chairperson.
Catherine Wanjiku Waruguru has been appointed as her replacement, with a mandate to lead the party’s women-focused initiatives and representation.
The party has also made changes to its youth wing. Serah Wanjiku Thiga has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the National Youth Caucus, succeeding Joel Sang.
This position is particularly vital in engaging and mobilizing young voters, which the party sees as key to its future success.
In addition to leadership changes, DCP has officially moved its headquarters. The party’s administrative base has been relocated from the Riara Centre located on Riara Road to a new address at DCP Headquarters, Musa Gitau Road, off Waiyaki Way in Nairobi.
This move is part of the party’s efforts to realign its operations in preparation for upcoming political activities.
The gazette notice further mentioned that any person wishing to raise concerns or submit comments regarding these changes has seven days from the date of publication to present their written submissions to the Registrar of Political Parties.
Gachagua officially launched the DCP party along with his close political allies on Thursday, May 15. The party’s identity includes a neon green and white theme, with the slogan “Skiza Wakenya” inscribed on its symbol.
The party’s logo features an image of fingers cupping an ear, symbolizing a commitment to listening to the voices and needs of ordinary Kenyan citizens.
